The Wiener Stadt- und Landesbibliothek originates in the 15th century. It was dissolved and eventually reestablished in 1780. The library houses collections pertaining to the history of Vienna. The files of Universal Edition, which contain many letters to and from Schoenberg, as well as autograph scores of Schoenberg works published by Universal Edition, are on deposit in the Library. In addition, the library holds the correspondence of Schoenberg's eldest son Georg and Anton Webern.
