The lovely, beautifully located market on the strand of Lake Obertrummer [recte: Obertrumer] seems to be growing into an Eldorado for Jews from all zones, thanks to the “enterprising activity” of Mrs. Berta Schönberg née Ott, wife of the baptized actor [recte: singer] Heinrich Schönberg from Bratislava. This woman is getting footsore finding summer retreats for her Jewish relatives, outbidding the prices so that Aryan vacationers cannot find accommodation and must often make way for the Jews. Apparently, some lessors have even written off people to whom they had already promised lodgings, in order to take in the outbidding Jews attracted by Mrs. Schönberg-Ott.
The [Salzburger] Chronik has already reported on the matter and, since the enterprising woman apparently ignored this first warning, we were requested to issue a second one, since we know for certain that, if it is to no avail, a third warning will assume rather distinct forms.
Thanks to the stance of its populace, Mattsee has been free of Jews up to now; it would be a disgrace for such a summer retreat if it were degraded to become an offshoot of Zion, simply because the Hebrews are able to pay somewhat more than our fellow Germans needing a vacation. If Mrs. Ott-Schönberg has no appreciation for such degradations of our people, our Mattsee citizens must prove to her that they still hold to German honor and community awareness.
