Imaginary and material damage
Jo Beukers van Ogtrop to Arnold Schönberg
12 July 1921
The Library of Congress, Washington, DC
In addition to the imaginary damage, the material damage from the Mattsee events threatened to become considerable, especially since fees for lodgings and piano rental were payable in advance for the entire time; music stands ordered from a local joiner also had to be paid for. Hence the donation sent by Dutch music lovers arrived at an opportune moment.
“I am happy to inform you that the sum of 1,450 schillings is now in my possession; it is at your disposal. Please notify me of the address to which I am to send the money, and whether you prefer the sum in Dutch banknotes or as a bill of exchange […] I hope you will be having a very fine summer and that you will not forget
Your Dutch friend,
Jo Beukers van Ogtrop”
