Schönberg’s planned work for his Mattsee sojourn was targeted at preparing the 3rd edition of Harmonielehre and continuing the Jakobsleiter torso. The summer retreat in Mattsee promised to be both busy and recreational. It was also to be the venue for a long-awaited gathering together of his extended family, circle of friends and pupils; apart from the “core” Schönberg family (Arnold, Mathilde, Trudi and Georg, traditionally with maidservant, niece Susi Kramer arrived from Berlin.
