Schönberg’s pupil Felix Greissle arrived in Mattsee on 11 June and took lodging on the Stiftsplatz (Mattsee 35). He reported to Alban Berg the following day that his teacher was in excellent spirits and had a large workload:
“Arrived fine yesterday. I can report only the best news of Schönberg. He is in good humor and, except for strolling, he works the entire day (on the Harmonielehre for now). He wants to stay in Mattsee until he has finished Jakobsleiter. His family is fine. They are living in a very nice house quite near the lake; it has enormous rooms.”
